Greenwich Love ...

Loving this Greenwich Townhouse by Steven Gambrel ... courtyard to die for ...
And I think this must be the lower ground/basement kitchen ... gorgeous table and banquette seating...

I am a sucker for the interior bricks - but bricks must ALWAYS be painted white and then dinged up a bit ... loving the giant lab glass urns as well ...
And here's the best bit - am inspired to frame up some random bits and pieces and get my bathroom looking a bit more like a gentleman's club ...

But - look closely friends - the hanging pendant in front of the mirror is the truly rad bit ... this is what I was talking about when I wrote about Trunk Bar - the half dipped silvered naked bulb is my dream lighting solution x

Ghost Time ...

It's time for my 6 monthly Ghost ...
Yippee!

16.7.09

Corgi Room ...

I just adore this little boys bedroom, as featured in Cookie Mag ...
It's actually quite grown up for a 3 year old - I love the use of non traditional boy colours and it feels a little bit 'country' too ... very cute.

My brother would love those Corgi etchings!

15.7.09

Marche au Puce ...

Here are a few shots that do absolutely no justice to an amazing market I went to in Paris ...
I walked for about 45 minutes because I really couldn't understand the Metro (and was a bit scared of it!) ... and boy, was the walk worth it!
This stall was amazing ... mind blowing ... stupendous! A ginormous font filled with sea shells? Genius!
I took the shots while the woman wasn't looking so that is why they aren't so great - but I'm sure you can get the drift!
And by now you can imagine I was gasping for air and fighting back the tears... stacks of Tolix chairs with just the right amount of dings and rust ... oh, how I wish I had a shipping container ...

One day I will go back and buy them all up x

14.7.09

Blacks and Reds ...

Gorgeous white rooms accented with splashes of red and black... graphic and punchy and oh-so organised!

I love the framed herringbone fabric in the first shot too - having a bit of a herringbone obsession at the moment - photos to come x

Set Design ...

I have been too embarrassed to say this until now ... but I am a massive Twilight fan!
Having a lovely weekend at home redecorating and moving props around, I had it on in the background because I love the soundtrack but stopped to sit down and take notes on Edward's bedroom - I had missed the subtle details earlier (clearly distracted by his handsomeness) and was very impressed when I looked more closely ...
He has one of these awesome Sapien bookcases from DWR ... along with Ghosts, this is one of the few designer pieces I would consider buying - I have the perfect spot in my room in fact!
Next designer fabulousness is a white leather Barcelona couch (he doesn't sleep so can apparently just get away with the chaise!)

And to top it all off the man has a walnut Eames DCM! I would kill to get my hands on one of these ... just one to pull up to my desk is all I would ever need!

Along with these impressive details, there are stacks of old books and great works of art, and the architecture itself is also just glorious- massive french doors, lots of glass and lots of white. I was really impressed with the subtle details - a round of applause for the set decorator, Gene Serdena.

First shot from AT!

Asylum Chic

My brother came to visit me recently and told me, very lovingly I might add, that my house looked like the inside of a British asylum.....
Not taking offense in the least ... what a fabulous and insightful compliment ... he knows me well!

Therefore... this little baby is going to look right at home... I'll take two in fact ...

Oof ... Oof ...

What a perfect little angel ... Kim, you made my day when you sent this over xx

Did you know that French puppies say oof oof? I loved that when I heard it ... French holiday photos to come soon friends ... just getting them recovered from my dodgy USB!

Paul Massey really is the man who can do no wrong ... his eye is spectacular
This is his latest renovation dream house, as seen in Living Etc this month ...

Crazy Small ....

I know this is a bathroom but I'm just looking for small space study inspiration ...
my lovely little sis Georgie has just bought a house and I have promised her an over-the-top crazily patterned study nook ...
what fun we will have deciding on the wallpaper!

30.6.09

Brassed ....

Loving this lofty kitchen ... have been searching for giant pin heads like those on the chairs for years to no avail ... hands up if you have a source please!

Perfection ...

Check out the latest fabulousness by Lyn Gardener (my decorating idol/icon/obsession), The White House in Daylesford, over at Kim's place ...

Perfection to die for ... I just can't get enough of the industral fittings and all those gorgeous flags casually draped about ...
I wonder if the world of viral hepatitis could spare me while I go and be her assistant for a few years?? Oh, how happy that would make me ...

Exam over... happy to be back friends xx

2.6.09

Surprise ...

Have some very exciting news that I couldn't share with you all before ....
Am currently in France for a very impulsive and surprise trip to see my sister Luce!

My parents had a trip booked for ages, so I decided to tag along (and escape the swine flu madness at outbreak headquarters downstairs) for the week in the Loire valley in a cottage on the Loire river, a few days in Paris either end, and another few days in London with Luce before coming home - her face when I met her at the Eurostar was priceless.... she had no idea!
There will be masses of photos to come dear friends ... get ready for castles and gardens overload, but most importantly shots of the fabulous puces de marchet (flea markets) that I am truly drooling over ....
Be back in about a fortnight dear friends ... stay tuned xx
PS I took this photo trying to capture the scale of this amazing chandelier ... it was truly massive ... swoon!

22.5.09

Book Pugs ...

My new babies ... they had my name written all over them and I couldn't resist ... you should have seen the fiasco trying to get them through to Melbourne in my hand luggage though - I think the airport dudes thought I was smuggling pug drugs!

Get more fabulous bits and bobs just like these darlings at Kim's precious shop, Brown Button Trading xx

Happy weekend friends!

20.5.09

Barn Love ...

A little blog love is heading over the Pacific to the Barn House boys ... I love everything they do - perfect styling, whimsical props, liberal use of the dented and rambly, and you know they are just loving every minute of it!
Good use of the twig!
That letter E is meant for me! And that birdie painting is just divine ...
Don't you just love that hay on the floor? Gorgeous ...
(My Mum loves this blog too - we are obsessed with having a barn one day ... as if that isn't obvious yet!!??)
Damn being so far away!

18.5.09

Sweet Ted ...

Have been having another blog rest kids... terrible for the readership, I know, but none the less, feeling a bit sparklier!

Am keen to do another themed week ... any suggestions?

17.4.09

So Regal ...

I love this invitation ... must try and recreate if I ever need to have a grand wedding type party ...?!

I am dreadful and had saved it with no reference so please yell out if it is yours or you know where I can get more!

15.4.09

Trunk ...

Fabulous place to hang out if ever in Melbourne kids ... Trunk Bar in the CBD ...
I have only been hanging out there a teensy bit ... mainly to analyse the spectacular interior design of course!

Gorgeous courtyard is a must ... loads of lovely Tolix chairs and stools (unfortunately not that comfortable on a warm evening I am sad to report!), and cool big steel planters filled with terracotta pots ... clever ... and of course lots of fairy lights and well suited bankers ...

Then you head inside and your jaw drops ... each details is meticulous ...
It has the industrial edge that I really love, while still remaining casual and unpretentious ...
Can't really see the windows that well in the photos, but they are grid like reinforced glass that reminds me of primary school ... fab.
And the shelves are copper ... good!

The naked bulb lighting is very big in Melbourne fit-outs I feel ... not getting sick of it though as it is so transferable and simply effective.

Note, the illustration on the far wall - bit like skater graffiti but it really works ...

I am pained to announce that the best bit of the entire place is the bathrooms (well, I have only been to the girls but I imagine the boys would be the same) ...
You will have to make do with my description ...!

Black door with a copper handle and pane of reinforced misty glass in the centre ...
Tiny black hexagonal matt tiled floor ...
Subway tiled in shiny white all the way up the wall AND over the ceiling (this looks fabulous!) ...
White tongue and groove walls for the stalls and doors ...
Long marble bar with sink cut into it ...
The taps are tarnished copper with the piping exposed in front of the mirror (turbo fabulous) ...
Best of all the lights are (of course) the hanging naked bulbs, but in the bathroom they get the extra glitz of being half dipped in silver to dim them a little bit ...

When I have a house of my own one day I will be marching my builder into this bathroom and demanding an exact replica - perfection!

13.4.09

Beige, Gold and Muted ...

Some Skona Hem loveliness to start the week dear friends...
I promise to blog more regularly from now on!

While I have nearly finished my bedroom in my new apartment (photos to come!), this room fills me with inspiration ... gorgeous!
I covet the space for a little table at the end of the bed ... and the pretty window shade ...
AND the snuggly puppy that handsome man is cuddling!

GREAT scrubby table ... am currently on the look out for similar ...

Again, how I wish there was a teensy bit more space ... this demi lune table would be completely wrong in the semi modern interior, but still, I love it!

PS ... have just seem a few other lovely blogs with the same photos! Certainly don't mean to steal anyone elses thunder my friends, just loving the Skona Hem as much as the rest of you do xxx

25.3.09

Me Likey ...

Still sorting the house out but having lots of fun!

No photos yet, so in the meantime, we are taking a fashion detour to outfit perfection!

Moving Week ...

I am TURBO (yes, I wrote turbo) excited about moving tomorrow!

Was back in Adelaide loading up all my boxes on the weekend ... my parents cheered as the last one was loaded and long lost corners of the garage emerged!
It is going to be so much fun opening them all up after so long apart ... what treasures will I find ...?

So, let the decorating begin ...

Before and after shots to come!

20.3.09

House of my Dreams ...

Have found another dream house!

Oh, how I would love a historic fishing shed like this with my very own deck (treacherous as it may seem with no balustrade) ...
By day, I would luxuriate on a gorgeous steamer lounge and watch the boats sail past ...
By night I would dream listening to the water lapping gently beneath me ...

No puppy today my friends ... can't find one cute enough with my limited searching times these days ... feel free to forward one through if you believe him worthy!

And thank you all for your kind and welcoming words ... it is great to be back xx

Bad blogger ... cant remember where this photo came from ... oops!

16.3.09

Why, Hello!

Hello ... long time, no see ...!

Just letting you know I am still around, but posting will remain intermittent until I finally finish the interstate move ... am about to settle into a lovely warehouse apartment with my friend Sal and I can hardly wait!

8 more sleeps ... not that I'm counting ...

9.2.09

Time Out ...

Having consulted the executive board of White & Wander (me, that is), a unanimous decision has been made that we need a break for a few weeks...

Looking for some new inspiration and to clear my head ... and I'm not feeling like I am doing my best work at the moment, so, I will be back when those creative juices are once again flowing ...

See you soon xx

5.2.09

Big and Small ...

This little one looks right at home here!
More baby Pug torture - just can't help myself ...

Enjoy the break, see you Monday x

Ahoy ...

I know it's super kitsch ... but I can't help my love of all things nautical!
I saw the link to this wildly fantastic Swedish shop called Par Courrier over at Designers Block and just had to share ...

Who isn't in the market for an hat stand crafted from oars?
Or a crazy deck like shelf?

No jokes about the cushions please ... I HAVE to have them....
I might have to start bidding on torn sails on eBay and make some myself ...
I know a bin shaped like the steamer stack may be a bit over the top ... but definitely a talking point!

4.2.09

Fashions From Far Away ...

I would die to be at this event ...
Copenhagen Fashion Week ....
... sigh!

I will bring you some snippets of my favourite shows through the week so stay tuned!

And gotta love a country that puts a cute puppy in its fashion advertising campaign!

2.2.09

Lost Arts ...

I love it when people read my blog and seem to just get my style ... and occasionally I receive lovely emails with suggestions about other things I might love ...
One such email came through from Mark pointing me in the direction of his company Lost Found Art ...
Oh, happy day ... I could buy it all ...

Their aim is to create installations combining 'artistic statement, whimsy, form and uniqueness' ...
And they suggest they can create either the 'subtle or outrageous'!
Fabulous philosophies to live life by, I say!

Alas, they are located in the US, but I can dream!

My one lonely black and white striped skittle would be right at home here xx

30.1.09

Pug Sloshed ...

Kit from the always gorgeous That Unreliable Girl blog sent me over this hilarious puggy link last week ...
I believe this scene is very possible since the long lost baby Rufus would also have eaten or drank anything that was put in his path ... including 20 big macs .. or was it 30 Sal???
He was pretty naughty!

Off to get hot and bothered at the races ... might need a drip or 2 after depending on how the day progresses ... hope to see you Monday!!!

Lit ...

I love this whimsical fantasy landscape ...
Created by designer Bruce Munro after visiting the Australian desert, this lighting installation in the English countryside just looks so pretty!

Luce, can you visit and take photos for me??

29.1.09

Glass Divine ...

This ... I could easily handle ...
I would never get sick of those windows ...

Except maybe in this horrible week of 40 degrees ...
But, like stunning and impractical high heels that cut off the circulation to your toes ... the suffering would very likely be worth it!

28.1.09

Airport Art ...

This art would make such an interesting and eye catching series in a hallway ...

IThe pictures are inspired by architectural details of prominent buildings, and then superimposed with the airport code from the city in which they were built - you could have one for each city you had lived in, or visited!

That might get a little excessive with my nomadic lifestyle ...

Get this here ...

27.1.09

Little Mention ...

Also forgot to say that last week I had a little mention ... little is the operative word since I am only mentioned in the side bar but, still ... I am mentioned in some very prestigious company so, thanks!

And, even if the author is suggesting that blogging land may hold some responsibility for the downfall of our favourite magazines ... don't blame me!

I still buy far too many mags (but don't worry, not as many as I used to Mum?!?)

Beach Brain ...

Have just realised I forgot to do a post today - sorry chickens!

I think it is because I went here yesterday ... Torquay that is ... I fried just a little bit in the sun but then spent all night reading a fantastic book called 'The Lovely Bones' ...
I am mad and really like to finish books in as fastest time is possible ... it was worth it though
Consequently, I was not firing on all cylinders today ... back with brain tomorrow I promise xx

23.1.09

Play Pug ...

Hee he ...
This little dude looks so funny ...
And speaking of funny, it's my dear old Dad's birthday ... Happy day Dad xx

And happy weekend dear friends xx

Shop Chic ...

I wish I could remember where I first found the link to this fabulous shop but alas I cannot ...
Anyway, isn't it lovely?
I think I would feel right at home if I just moved in!

Stunning!

Perfectly proportioned and fabulously edited prop settings ...
Love that brown and beige link pattern on this chair ....
And all interior walls should be painted thickly with white just like this ...

Take a leaf out of Husdons book, they sure know how to do it well ...

22.1.09

Wedded Bliss ...

Delicious, divine and scrubby loveliness ...

When (if) I have a wedding, this is exactly the tone I would like to set ...
It is casual, but still elegant and with that rustic touch that I love the best ...

Of course these shots are from the always fabulous Lobster and Swan, as featured over at Once Wed ...

21.1.09

So so good ...

I really love a white painted interior brick wall - of course, it would need to be scrubbed back a bit like this! I have a direct aversion to perfect finishes .... !

And, since I have an ensemble, am thinking that in my new bedroom (when I finally get a place sorted ...), I may attempt to make one of these lovely buttoned back darlings ... I think I can do it ... will keep you posted!

Photo ... Apartment Therapy of course!

20.1.09

Dance the night away ...

Because I am about to tarnish my beautiful blog with Pamela Anderson, here is a stunning shot from my files to try and make up for it .....

Forgive me!

I went to a fabulous Melbourne pub the other night and danced for hours ...
This dancing was mainly fueled by the awesome set of tunes the DJ had selected ...
and here are the best 2 for your enjoyment (hopefully!) ...

I will certainly be going back!

19.1.09

Level Best ...

Spectacular fabulousness ... who else wants to live on level 5?

Here ...

16.1.09

Furry Face ...

What a friendly little face!I just want to squish his little ears!
I miss having a dog so much, I don't know why I torture myself by posting these cute puppies on Fridays?
Does it torture you too?

Will be back as usual on Monday ... staying out of the shops this weekend ... promise!

Pom ...

I need these ...
You know I do ...
I want to style up my bedroom like a British Aristocrat ...

Now, just the small issue of finding an actual aristocrat to complete the scene ...

15.1.09

Snip ...

Don't you wish you could sometimes get your hair cut longer?
I know in the modern world this is of course called hair extensions but just can't bring myself to do it.... let alone pay for it!

The dilemma is that I either want a really long mane or a short sharp cut ... never in the middle, which is of course what I currently have!

So, tonight am going short again - but just short enough so I can't get it in a pony tail and be cursed with high school hair forever ...!

14.1.09

Spooked ...

Yep, bought a Ghost last week ...
And am so in love with it I feel I could float away with the next gust of wind ...
Don't even want to sit on it because it is just so beautiful ... am just staring at it with tears in my eyes!

The plan is to add to my family (even though I am a single mother!) once every 6 months until a set of 6 is complete ...

Ah, sigh ...

13.1.09

Home ...

I have stumbled upon my spiritual home ... I know that is a very dramatic sweeping statement, and I may have said it before, but this time it is most definitely true!

Nirvana exists - it is living at Tarlo and Graham on Chapel St ...

It is as if all of my favourite props and bits and bobs have been pulled by a giant magnet from across the globe into this one perfect space ... I was audibly gasping as I glimpsed at all the treasures ...

They have drums ...
They have antlers ...
They have globes ...
They have vintage surgical cabinets...
and other rare and fanciful whimsies ...

Now, the geniuses behind it have cleverly done the hard yards trawling around the back alleys and spotting the hidden gems, but the prices are worth it ... they have things I have been searching for years for ...

And, Mum, I know, I certainly don't need any more props! A girl can look and dream though, right?

Images here ...

Why ... Hello!

Hello again ...!

I am back exactly a month after my last post before Christmas ...
I have travelled across Australia with a little help from my lovely little bro and parents (the journey was 4 times the length of the UK, Luce worked out!), and am now residing happily in Melbourne ...

I have started a new and exciting job in head office Communicable Diseases (not as gross as it sounds) and have been spending my weekends trawling blissfully through far too many shops and catching up with old friends and family ...

Posting may be a little haphazard while I get my connection sorted, but I am glad to be back with new found blogging enthusiasm and vigour ... and can't wait to sit down and read through all of my favourite blogs that I have been missing so much xx

12.12.08

Fluffy Puppy ...

Wouldn't a puppy be the perfect stocking stuffer?

Righto, so this is going to unfortunately be my last regular post for a few weeks ... as some of you may have read, I have a very large 4000km drive ahead of me to get home to Adelaide for Christmas (my little bro is doing it with me for the last half thank goodness!), and then a further drive on to Melbourne afterwards to start my new job and new life!

Very exciting ... but posting will be a little sparse ...

I hope the lead up to your Chrissie will be a little more relaxing and joyous ... will be back soon dear friends xx

My favourite colour is still stripes ...

Stunner!
Can't get enough of black and white stripes and the addition of this fabulous moulded floating shelf makes them even more amazing!

Can't find the source - let me know if it is you!

11.12.08

Fly Away ...

I stumbled upon this stunning and affordable art over at Elle Decoration ...
Nice to find something, that as Pip says, satisfies the 'Wander' part of White & Wander ...

The design group is called Air Lines ...
They have created these works of art depicting every flight around the world on any particular day, tracking their route from point of origin to their destination ...
You can buy it with or without the world outline, and also in reverse ...

(Am science nerd and think this kind of looks like brain electron microscopy of axons and dendrites - still very cool ...)

The best part is that the are huge and only US$38 each or as a holiday special US$90 for all 3!
I can't think of a piece of art I want more ...

Might have to buy as an early Chrissy prezzie for .... me!

10.12.08

Waterway ...

How civilized being able to moor your little boat right at the front door?
Sold ...!

Here ...
