Never one to shy away from a bit of humanitarian action (I was volunteering in Timor last year and loved it) ... I was inspired by
Kim and
Amanda to get in on the action for Blog Action Day...
An organisation that is certainly close to my heart is the
Hesperian Foundation.
Before I left for Timor, I bought a copy of thier book '
Where there is no Doctor', probably one of the most well know and successful manuals for primary health care in developing countries.
It has been published in over 75 different languages, and last year was reprinted to include sections on HIV and anti-retroviral therapy reflecting the global increase in this epidemic, and updated sections on malaria, nutrition and tropical medicine.
It is designed to be used mainly by non profesional staff mainly, but I found it absolutely invaluable in delivering health information to the Timorese people and still look to it in my current role in Aboriginal health care in Australia.
So, I will also donate $2 for every comment to help The Hesperian Foundation deliver books to the areas where they are most needed ...
It's a great cause so lets get behind it xx
